Karlo Crnek is a researcher at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Computer Science and Informatics.
Karlo Crnek received a Bachelor of Engineering degree from Zagreb University of Applied Sciences, and a Master’s degree from the University of Maribor, both in electrical engineering. He currently works on deep learning research, with a focus on natural language processing, understanding, generation (NLP, NLU, NLG), and AI-based conversational assistants. His other research interests are also computer vision algorithms used for autonomous vehicle environment perception, and machine learning on embedded systems (edge AI).
PhD student at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Computer Science and Informatics 2020-
Research work for PhD is focused on the field of designing multimodal communication interfaces, more specifically on the field of understanding natural language and generating conversational language. The problem of advanced response formation, using artificial intelligence procedures that would be more similar to the natural response of people in conversational situations, is a very hot research field. The starting point of the planned scientific research work includes not only the basic aspects of artificial intelligence in the field of NLP, but also the understanding of verbal and nonverbal content and their inclusion in the automatic generation of responses, as well as elements of cognitive science. Today, this is one of the biggest challenges in the development of artificial general intelligence AGI. Among the targeted applications of the results of this work, we can place applications for dialogue systems – goal-oriented systems and open-domain systems.
